Kid of the Week

Brave Me Kid of the Week

March 18th - 25th, 2020

Taylor

Taylor is such a sweetheart! She has been a little scared about Coronavirus because she’s not sure when things are going to get back on track. She’s going to miss lunch at school where she gets to talk to her friends. But, she said that the best thing she can do to stay calm is to talk to her Nana because she is so good at explaining things and helping her understand what’s happening. Brave Me is proud of you Taylor for always talking with the people who love you the most about what’s on your mind.

"I know one thing I can do to help is wash my hands. I love the feeling of the water and how clean my hands feel after. Playing Roblox or Minecraft video games online with my friend Nikki gets my mind off the virus too. She’s the best! I also love playing with my dogs, Sky, Daisy and Abby. If one of them is hurt, I go tell someone and try to help them. I remember that I was scared too when my Papa got cancer because I didn’t know much about sickness. My Nana told me about it - but I mostly didn’t want him to pass away. My favorite memory with him is that we always had the BEST tea parties together. "

Nominate a Brave Kid!

When it comes to bravery, kids are amazing! Moms and Dads, grandparents, siblings, relatives, teachers, nurses and doctors are often blown away by the strength of a kid they know who is facing a scary procedure or handling a medical condition. We want you to tell us about the brave kid in your life. If we choose them as the Brave Me Kid of the Week, they will be featured in the Brave Me Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages @BraveMeRoars and of course here on the braveme.com website. They will also get a Brave Me gift card to select the gift of their choice (a Brave Me cape, T-shirt, Riley stuffed animal, etc.) They will feel good knowing they can inspire other kids just like them to remember to always be Brave Me!

Thanks for contacting us. We'll be in touch soon.

Brave Me Kid of the Week

February 26th - March 4th, 2020

Jackson

Jackson is calm, cool and collected and anyone who is lucky enough to meet him can tell almost instantly what a great kid he is. Whatever he may face dealing with the literal ups and downs of T1D, he knows that life is about enjoying time with friends and family, playing sports (even just wrestling with his buddy in the pool) and finding ways to give the brain a break from stress. Though we here at Brave Me may prefer lions, the fact that Jackson’s favorite animal is the wolf really makes sense. Like them he is extremely intelligent, highly social and loyal to the pack, which in his case is his awesome family!

"I love playing soccer and have played goalkeeper and forward. My goal is to be a professional soccer player in the future. I love football too and I root for the New England Patriots. I really like to go fishing, especially if I can catch snook, snapper and dorado. Christmas is my favorite holiday because I get to see my Aunt from Chicago and my Uncle from San Diego! Being together with the whole family is what makes it the best."

Brielle

Brielle is not just incredibly brave but extremely bright too. Though she has had to learn a great deal more about medical challenges than most second-graders, her smile lights up a room. She is full of empathy for other kids and has a zest for new adventures. Her close-knit family is her greatest source of strength. One of her favorite songs is "The Fight Song" by Rachel Platten and Brielle we know you've still got a lotta fight left in you!

"My brother Jackson is the bravest person I know and I love playing soccer and football with him. I also love playing on the playground and doing gymnastics and practicing on my mat and beam. Math is my best subject in school. When I'm dealing with anything hard, I like to distract myself with arts and crafts, especially drawing unicorns and rainbows!"

Brave Me Kid of the Week

January 29th - February 5th, 2020

Phoenix

There are some kids who are so far ahead of their age, whose fascination with how the world works never stops and whose zest for learning is insatiable. Phoenix is one of those amazing kids and we are so fortunate to honor him as our kid of the week. He may describe himself as a Type 1er, but his life is so full and beyond what you may expect from a typical first grader. He inhales information and makes use of every detail by building elaborate equipment and robots, knowing how to match positive and negative charges correctly on electrical projects, attaching pieces with tubes and screws and nails, assembling miniature cars and asking questions to get to the why of anything science-based. To spend time with him is to realize that his passion for knowledge is contagious. Phoenix – you are one awesome kid and we hope your brain never stops being curious!

"When we go on my neighbor Luke’s boat, I love going fishing and seeing the boats in the marina. My favorite ride is the Tower of Terror because it’s so much fun and when it dropped I was like ‘Whoooo – this is fun!’ I love talking to my friends and they really take care of me with diabetes and have my back. One of my friends even shares seats with me on the bus on the way to school. The books by Eric Carle like The Very Hungry Caterpillar are the ones I like the best. If something’s bothering me, I breathe a lot, talk with someone to distract me and then I can relax.”
