Kid of the Week

Brave Me Kid of the Week

January 13th - January 20th, 2020

Grace

Grace is such pure sunshine and light that we don’t even know how this snow didn’t melt just being around her. She may be little, but she handles being a Type 1 diabetic with great courage. She is even brave enough to do her own insulin injections when the time comes. Her favorite thing about being this age is that she knows she is going to get taller. Grace - you have the sweetest heart and the most adorable smile and you make everyone who knows and loves you so proud every day!

"I love playing on the trampoline. I like friends who are nice and fun and I goof off with my friends a lot. When I am feeling a little down, my favorite thing to do is set something up for my Mom and I to play together. My Mom is the bravest person I know. My favorite thing about being in nature is looking at all the tiny animals like the bugs. My brother even like the fish. The Greatest Showman is a great movie and the best part is when the man sings the song.”

Nominate a Brave Kid!

When it comes to bravery, kids are amazing! Moms and Dads, grandparents, siblings, relatives, teachers, nurses and doctors are often blown away by the strength of a kid they know who is facing a scary procedure or handling a medical condition. We want you to tell us about the brave kid in your life. If we choose them as the Brave Me Kid of the Week, they will be featured in the Brave Me Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages @BraveMeRoars and of course here on the braveme.com website. They will also get a Brave Me gift card to select the gift of their choice (a Brave Me cape, T-shirt, Riley stuffed animal, etc.) They will feel good knowing they can inspire other kids just like them to remember to always be Brave Me!

Thanks for contacting us. We'll be in touch soon.

Brave Me Kid of the Week

January 8th - January 13th, 2020

Lauren

When it comes to quiet strength, Lauren has it in droves. She’s the type of kid who also wants to help anyone else going through a hard time so that they can find their inner courage too. After facing some adversity, she was able to develop her own coping mechanisms which include deep-breathing, listening to her favorite music and talking to the people who love her the most about what’s on her mind. She loves going to the movies and playing games and she is quite talented at doing gymnastics and flipping on a trampoline. She honestly makes it look like she’s defying gravity! Though she is only in middle school, she is wise beyond her years and always finds a reserve of courage whenever she needs to push through. You truly embody the amazing spirit of the Brave Me Kid of the Week Lauren and we are proud to choose you to kick off 2020!

"My pediatrician ordered an X-ray for me when they thought I might have had scoliosis. I was a little nervous, but talking to my Mom really helped me stay calm and realize it’s just a picture. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long to find out that my spine was fine. My favorite subjects are math and science because I really like numbers and logic. My favorite time of year is the very last week because it includes Christmas AND my birthday, which means I get to spend a ton of time with my family. For me, that’s the best present!”

Ariana

Even though she’s only eight, Ariana has a powerful strength that helps her handle life with Type 1 diabetes courageously. She looks forward to going to diabetes camp in the summer where she can do art, go swimming and have a blast on the playground. She said it’s awesome to be with kids who truly understand what life with diabetes is like but she also loves the chance to teach other kids about diabetes as she does so well in the Brave Me video for Type 1. Her best friend Aliyah lives with T1D too, though they bond and laugh together about many wonderful things and are definitely two adorable peas in a pod. Ariana – you remind Brave Me of the saying “Though she may be little, she is fierce!” Your quiet bravery amazes us 😍

"When I grow up, I really want to be a chef and cook healthy meals. You get to learn more about math because you have to measure the right amounts of the ingredients to make it just right. I love to cook with my family and make grits and eggs with my Dad. The bravest person I know is my friend Aliyah! When I’m feeling down, I like to cuddle with my stuffed bear Rufus. He’s been with me over four years.”

Ethan

There are so many reasons to honor Ethan as our Brave Me Kid of the Week – one being that he displayed quite a bit of bravery when he had surgery just last week. Luckily, he is recovering quite nicely! Though he’s currently a fifth grader, he is a wonderful young man with an old soul who gives terrific advice and always tries to focus on the positive. Ethan has a promising career ahead of him as a gamer or a YouTube personality and with a smile like that – people won't be able to resist tuning in. Because cold weather is a trigger for his asthma, Ethan is going to stick to life in the sunshine…state that is. You are one awesome kid Ethan. Brave Me wishes you ALL the best!

"I love learning about space and planets during science class. When I have free time, I like watching YouTube and I follow gamers who stream on Twitch or other platforms but I also play football as a running back so I like being competitive. My favorite animal is a lion because they have those cool manes. When it comes to superheroes, Batman is my favorite because when he’s caught up in a situation he always uses his brain to get out of things.”
